Licorice Sour Cocktail
A Bold, Botanical Twist on a Classic
Ingredients:
- 1 oz Ghia Original Aperitif
- 1 oz fresh lemon juice
- 1 oz Licorice Tea Syrup (recipe below)
- 0.25 oz egg white
Method:
- Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice.
- Shake hard — you want the egg white to foam beautifully and create that silky texture.
- Strain over fresh ice into your favourite glass.
- Garnish with a dehydrated Cara Cara orange wheel for colour, citrus perfume, and a touch of artistry.
How to Make Licorice Tea Syrup
This syrup is where the magic happens. We use Egyptian licorice tea, known for its natural sweetness and layers of warm spice — think cinnamon, anise, and a hint of molasses.
To make it:
- Brew a triple-strength batch of your favourite licorice tea. (Three bags per cup of water works beautifully.)
- While still hot, stir in equal parts sugar until fully dissolved.
- Let cool, bottle, and store in the fridge for up to two weeks.
Fizz Tip: This syrup also makes a killer spritz — just mix with sparkling water and a slice of lemon.
How to Dehydrate an Orange at Home
You don’t need fancy equipment for this garnish.
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (90°C).
- Slice Cara Cara or navel oranges thinly (about ⅛ inch thick).
- Lay them flat on parchment and bake for 2–3 hours, flipping halfway.
- Once crisp and lightly translucent, cool completely before storing.
They’ll keep for weeks and add effortless style to any cocktail or spritz.
Why We Love It
The Licorice Sour captures everything we love about modern non-alcoholic cocktails — layered, functional, and full of feeling. Ghia brings its signature bitter complexity with herbs and citrus, while the licorice tea syrup adds warmth and depth without overpowering. The result is elegant, unexpected, and quietly mood-lifting.
